Kayla Sharma, OT, CLT

Kayla graduated from University of New Hampshire with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Science. She then completed her Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida. She started her career working with the geriatric population in skilled nursing. She has now worked in a variety of settings including independent living, assisted living and outpatient facilities. Throughout her career as an occupational therapist, she has noted how the increase of edema or lymphedema can negatively impact function. She also developed the value that therapeutic touch is one of her most important tools. as a clinician. After her own personal struggle with breast cancer, she decided she needed to further her skill set and become proficient in lymphatic drainage.
Through becoming a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT), Kayla strives to include a comprehensive decongestive therapy. This includes educating the patient to prevent lymphedema or the furthering of the disease, tailoring exercise to the patient's lifestyle and preference, providing manual lymphatic drainage, fitting for compression garments, and skin care. These are the key components to maximizing client's health and wellness to achieve the highest level of function.

Kayla enjoys collaborating with her patients and tailoring rehab programs to fit their unique needs. Kayla gives a lot of importance to empathy in her treatment. She has published an article for an occupational therapy magazine, OT practice, highlighting the importance of empathy in the therapy process. When not in the clinic, she is spending time with her two children and husband. She also enjoys exercising, cooking and reading.
